First Impressions

We have been in Korea for just about two days now and I wanted to share some of our first impressions.

The city of Seoul. The city was totally lit up with colourful lights everywhere and the traffic at 9:00 pm on a Friday night made rush hour in Vancouver look like a walk in the park.

The city of Uiwang (where we live and will work). The weather is very humid here and the city feels a little like Abbotsford in the sense that it is a "City in the Country". There are tons of walking paths, parks, greenhouses and a lake within walking distance of our house.

Our apartment. Let's just say that when our school director saw how many bags we brought, he was worried whether they would all fit into our apartment. I'm sure we will do a post soon showing you all around...it will be a fairly short post.

Our school director. One of our hopes for this adventure in Korea was a school director who could speak English and help with our transition here. God answered this prayer. Mr. Kim and his family are very kind. They even filled our cupboards with some food, including bread and peanut butter (which is kind of a necessity in our family)!

Today is Sunday in Korea (we are 16 hours ahead of BC and 15 hours ahead of Saskatchewan). Mr Kim, his wife and daughter, Becca took us for lunch at a place called "Mr. Pizza" where we ate pizza covered in potato and shrimp and cream cheese. Different, but not bad. Becca then spent the day showing us the ropes on taking the subway and bus to church in Seoul. We attended Jubilee Church, an English congregation of mostly young foreigners. We liked the contemporary feel and its missional focus. The church has a website if you are interested: http://jubileeseoul.com/. Tomorrow we will be observing another English teacher at Five Stones School.

  1. Thank you for posting! I have been praying for you both and am so glad to hear that you arrived safe and sound in Korea. Your city sounds pretty and I'm curious to see just how small your apartment is!!

Blessings on you as you get orientated with your surroundings!
    Love you!
