After church we took the subway to Myeongdong. This area is very popular for its shopping. We found many nice stores, several familiar stores to back home and many familiar restaurants too. Before coming to South Korea, Karmen was worried we might have trouble finding clothes in our size (let's face it we are slightly taller than the average Korean). However, this shopping removed any worry we had and now we can expand our teaching wardrobe if need be!
For lunch, we ate at....McDONALD'S!!!!! I had a Big Mac and Karmen had a Spicy Chicken Deluxe. Then for dessert we shared a gigantic ice cream cone from a street vendor. Sometimes we just need familiarity and reminders of home!
After our time in Myeongdong, we decided to ascend Namsan Mountain (in a cable car). This is a mountain in the downtown area of Seoul. At the top of the mountain we enjoyed a beautiful view of Seoul: it is HUGE! It really had no end in sight; apartments and sky rises continued on for as far as the eye could see. We got to watch some traditional performances atop the mountain as well. There were a group of drummers, in traditional dress, playing a fast-paced beat. Afterwards we watched a group of actors, again in traditional clothing, put on a demonstration using swords and other really cool weapons. We really enjoyed these performances.
For now we will post a video of the performance on facebook. We are hoping that we will be able to put videos on here very soon.
