It's Beginning To Feel A Lot Like Christmas

So December is upon us and that means Christmas is just around the corner. Although it is sad thinking about celebrating Christmas away from family and friends, we find ourselves excited about making new memories and experiencing Christmas in another culture.

Last weekend, we went with some of our friends here to a hotel in Seoul and got to see a beautiful, large Christmas tree, a life-size gingerbread house, a number of Santa dolls representing several countries and a cool, detailed train display. It felt very festive and Christmasy.

We have decorated our place to make it feel a little more homey and like Christmas. We have put snowflakes (courtesy of a care package; thanks mom!) on our cupboards and lights on our wall above our bed. These little additions have set the mood in our place for this time of year. And realistically we have pretty much maxed out the potential for what we could do in our place.

At our school, the kindergarten kids are frantically preparing for their Christmas program. It is going to be a musical and incorporate both English and Korean. We have been able to see glimpses of the performance during our English class with the kids and they are super cute. They have a choreographed dance and song routine. It will be very cute and we are looking forward to the production.

It has been getting quite cold here. This weekend is going to reach double digits below zero. Brrrr.  And this morning we woke up to snow!!! Okay some of you may laugh when you see the pictures but at least any snow is better than no snow. And rumor has it we have more snow on the way this week. We have been looking into some winter activities we can do here too. We are hoping to do some ice skating and maybe if we get enough snow we can make a snowman or at least a snowchild!!

As for tonight, Karmen and I are sitting in our small place. Instead of a fire place, we are being warmed by our delightful in-floor heating. And in the place of mom's homemade cookies and Christmas treats, we are enjoying hot chocolate and Tim Tam's!
